Another plus for Berbice

Dear Editor,

As a Berbician, I view the news of the new Gy$113 million psychiatric hospital for Canje with a great degree of excitement. Only recently, plans have been put in shape for the first ever school of nursing in the county. With the completion of the new psychiatric hospital, Berbice will now be medically equipped to adequately serve the people of the area.

Added to these two facilities is the recently built, state-of-the-art, spanking new general hospital in New Amsterdam.

The contract for the building of the new psychiatric facility has already been signed, and before long construction is likely to start. Apart from these three medical institutions which are centred around the New Amsterdam/ Canje area, the people of Berbice also enjoy the services of the brand new Ophthalmology Centre at Port Mourant, and the Skeldon Hospital on the Upper Corentyne.

I could say without any fear of contradiction that we on the Corentyne are enjoying quality health care. Indeed, we could boast of having everything, from schools to business enterprises, to hospitals to industries, police stations and a perfect highway.

I am proud to be a Berbician, and would always encourage continuous development of Berbice for the benefit of its people.

Faithfully,

Veerapen Veerasammy
